I promised I would reveal the place card today that I incorporated into my own Thanksgiving Tablescape, and drum roll please………… here it is!
#5 is the winner, the Liquidambar fruit seed pod. My husband and I hosted our first Thanksgiving yesterday, complete with a huge 24lb Turkey and all of the trimmings. It was a wonderful day spent with family and of course lots of yummy food and some pretty florals! I am so thankful for my family and friends this year, and all of my wonderful clients, past and future! It has been a great year and I’m truly blessed to have had a chance to work with such wonderful couples. I am also sooooo looking forward to some amazing weddings in 2013!
For our Thanksgiving tablescape, I incorporated the most perfect coral charm peonies, seriously, they were huge, combined them with some deep purple ranunculus, privet berries and accents of grass plumes and dusty miller. My Mom helped me out by making the pretty Chevron Table Runner, since my sewing skills are somewhat lacking. I spray painted some mini pumpkins with metallic spray paint to contrast with the florals in mercury glass and add some Thanksgiving cheer. The final touch on our table was 5 kernels of corn, a tradition started by my Grandmother many Thanksgiving’s ago. It dates back to the days of the Pilgrims and you can read below the whole story.
Five Grains of Corn
In early New England it was the custom at Thanksgiving time to place five grains of corn at every plate as a reminder of those desperate days in the first winter when the food of the Pilgrims was so depleted that only five grains of corn were rationed to each individual at a time.
I think it goes to show just how truly thankful we are these days. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
