Event Design 101: Linens

Our latest blog series, Event Design 101, continues today with a new topic: linens! If you are new to the series, Event Design 101 is all about taking a deeper look into some of the design services and elements that we at Life In Bloom offer to our clients. Here we will share ways to take your event from zero to hero by investing in some seemingly simple elements that are sure to transform your space. So onto linens…

When you walk into a large event space, your eye is immediately drawn to the colors of the room which is often heavily influenced by the color of linen you have chosen. A well-chosen linen color has the potential to make the rest of your decor really pop.  It also has the ability to completely detract from what you want your guests to see (the beautiful centerpieces) As a general rule of thumb, we usually gravitate towards using a neutral linen and add pops of color in with your napkins, paper goods, or other miscellaneous decor elements (as well as those beautiful centerpieces).

Now, texture is equally, if not more important, when choosing your linens. With a thick, textured material such as the yuma linens or a hand-woven sheer silk runner you get a much more luxurious feel and aesthetic than your standard thin, glossy, ballroom linens (yuck!)

If you do end up choosing a standard linen instead of one with texture, there is a way to create that texture and rich feel with a linen overlay. This (usually sheer) linen, drapes over your standard linen. The majority of overlays are embroidered with beading, lace, or sequins. The double-layered option is not something you see everyday, but can be an absolute show-stopper.

For when you want to add a little bit of color or fun (perhaps during cocktail hour) there are plenty of fun patterned linens to choose from.  While a little more costly, there is also always the option to have your linens custom made for your event. Think endless patterns and colors…

Below are a few examples of some fantastic linens done just right! Enjoy..
