Life In Bloom – 2017 Year in Review!

2017 was an incredible year for the Life In Bloom team!  We designed and produced 51 weddings, 6 corporate events, 2 baby showers, and 1 bachelorette flower-crown workshop.  Contrast that to 43 weddings and 3 corporate events that we had in 2016 and you can see why this year was such a whirlwind!  None of it would have been possible without our fantastic team!

We went from a small production crew of about 3 including myself and Erin to a team of 10!  Thank you Erin, Jordyn, Kristy, Luna, Sam, Kara, Devon, and Kristina for all of your hard work & dedication throughout the year and for making every day in the Life In Bloom studio so enjoyable!

Exciting News: As some of you know, we recently signed a lease on a new design studio in Fulton Market!  The location couldn’t be more perfect (just blocks from the wholesale markets, and just off the highway making wedding installs much easier).  The building was recently rehabbed by Red Sky Capital and they did a fabulous job keeping some of the old industrial charm while bringing the space into the 21st century!  First order of business before moving in on February 1st is building a new massive walk-in cooler.  A Florist’s Dream!  The new space will have a separate office area for meetings and mockups, a designated storage area, and more room for production! And did I mention I am excited for the walk-in cooler!?

Either 2018 brides came early this year or this is going to be one incredible year for us!  We have already closed dates on numerous weekends which is exciting but can also be tough when we have to say no to some amazing opportunities.  But I truly believe having the discipline to say no to ensure quality execution on those events that we already have booked is what sets us apart.

So while we are anxiously looking forward to a VERY solid lineup of sure-to-be beautiful events in 2018, let us first take a look back at some of the magic that the Life In Bloom team made happen this past year!

We kicked off the year with this show stopping bouquet with a wedding at the Armour House.  The Clooni Ranunculus stole the spotlight as this bouquet quickly became a favorite among potential brides.

In May we really kicked off the busy season with Torie & Amarit’s romantic & etheral wedding.  It was our first of five weddings at the Ivy Room in 2017!  When I first started Life In Bloom, it was a DREAM of mine to “one day” do a wedding at The Ivy Room.  Oh how far we have come!  And we already have the same number of Ivy Room Weddings booked for 2018!

As outdoor ceremonies are basically our favorite, we were pretty pumped to be working at Galleria Marchetti quite a few times this year.  Our Designer, Erin McLoraine designed this stunning gazebo set up for our sweet couple, Da Sel & Gongmyung.

One of the sweetest outdoor ceremonies took place at The University of Chicago nestled away in this beautiful courtyard!

Suspended decor was simply all the rage this year, and we designed/built over 20 hanging structures in 2017 alone.  Take this beautiful ceremony backdrop that we designed for Melissa & Adam’s wedding at Morgan Manufacturing.  We just love the unexpected pops of airplants in the design!

Summer weddings called for pops of bright colorful blooms!  This time at the Hinsdale Golf Club.

Alice & Sidd were married under this Stunning Mandap at the Chicago Illuminating Company.  The bright colors, ombre carnation garlands, and adorable moss elephant that we named ‘Elly’ are just a few fun details from their special day.

Hundreds of white fluffy hydrangea were bursting at the seams of our studio in September for Jess & Joel’s Wedding.  Classic green & white paired perfectly with patterned linens from La Tavola.  We loved their lush hydrangea garland which trailed effortlessly off the table with a loose and organic flair.

Fall brought colorful palettes and vibrant colors into the studio! The burgundy fabric used for Lauren & Justin’s ceremony arch really popped against the greenery at the MCA.

We were lucky enough to design a fellow industry member’s wedding at the Chicago Illuminating Company.  It’s always a pleasure working with you Elinor- and if you are in need of a caterer check her out at Blue Plate!

More suspended ceremony pieces- this time at Ovation!

Lauren & Laura’s wedding at La Pergola was a show stopper.  The event design & decor flowed effortlessly and no detail was left unnoticed.

So Jin & Kevin celebrated family style at the new Ace Hotel with natural farm tables and BBJ Velvet Linens. Atop the tables were lush garlands with seasonal blooms & berries tucked in and pops of burgundy and rosemary.  Kevin personally wrote each and every guest a note which was placed at their place setting. How cute is that!?

Carroll & Eric were married in front of one of our favorite creations of 2017- an oversized suspended floral ring!  (Not pictured: two more throughout the room!) To bring their rustic- Colorado- mountain theme to life we used birch & curly willow branches to create a base then wove in smilax, Calsynia, Delphinum & rose blooms into the ring.  Touches of green Amaranthus brought the rings to life.

In late fall, we traveled to Galena for Ashley and Connor’s wedding.  Ashley and the Planner that she is, put together such a beautiful and well-thought out day!  From the beautiful focal pieces to the campfire s’mores not only was this wedding beautiful, it was probably one of the most fun weddings we’ve had the privilege of attending!

Thanks for a great year and cheers to all that 2018 brings!
