Preparing for your floral consultation!

Here are a few important things to consider when preparing for your floral consultation!  To make the most of your consultation, keep these seven topics in mind when preparing.

Floral Budget

We try to work with every budget at Life in Bloom but the process is so much easier for both our clients and us when we are provided with a budget up front.  It can be an estimate or a range, but a starting point is greatly appreciated.  If you have no idea how much you want to spend on flowers, 10% of your overall budget is the average amount that most people spend on flowers.  This varies from couple to couple but if you have no idea where to begin, this is a good starting point.

Reception Venue

Where are the celebrations going to take place?  Bring along any info that deals with your reception venue.  If you have a floor plan of the venue or any other important documents bring them along.  Are there any special requirements or restrictions at your venue?  For example; the Chicago History Museum does not allow candles.  In those cases we would recommend using LED candles as a replacement.

Ceremony Venue

Many churches in Chicago have very strict decor rules with what the allow.  Some do not allow any flowers besides the personal flowers (bouquets, boutonnieres, etc.).  With your ceremony venue in mind we can recommend appropriate floral choices and suggest ideas for the alter, aisle, pews, etc!

Color Palette

You should have your bridesmaid’s dress color(s) selected before meeting with your florist.  If you would like help deciding on additional accent colors, we can assist and help provide options of stunning color palettes.  It is always good to have a starting point with at least one color.

Favorite Flowers

What types of flowers do you like?  Are there certain flowers you do not want included?  Bring as many pictures as you want of flowers, arrangements, decor, and bouquets you both like and dislike.  Keep in mind that a lot of flowers are seasonal so they may not be available for your wedding day but we can help suggest similar ones that will give you the same look.  The more pictures and info you provide us with the easier it is to nail down your floral style.

Bridal Party Members

At this point in time, you have already asked your bridesmaid and groomsmen to stand up at your wedding.  Are there any other special people in your life you would like to include or honor in your wedding ceremony?  Think about corsages for Mothers & Grandmother, boutonnieres for Fathers, Grandfathers, and Ushers.  Will you have any flower girls or ring bearers?  How about readers or other assistants?  Come with a list of the special people you are including in your big day so we can discuss floral options for them :).

Number of Guests Invited

Your guest number and table size directly correlates with how many centerpieces you will need for your reception.  You should have an idea of your estimated guest count for your wedding so we can suggest centerpieces within your budget.Life in Bloom Wedding Florist

With all of this information nailed down you are ready for your floral consultation!  Ask lots of questions and speak your mind.  We love a new and challenging design concept so don’t be afraid to ask for something out of the ordinary.  We are here to help transform your vision into reality.

Know someone getting married this year still looking for a florist?  We are offering a free bridal bouquet or home arrangement (if already married) up to $150 in value to any of our clients past or present that refer a new client that books with Life in Bloom by March 1, 2013!  Bridal bouquet will be redeemed at time of wedding, home arrangement must be redeemed by December 31, 2013.
